Russian Americans
Historically, Russians emigrating to America were generally considered to have arrived in several "waves" - beginning with those Russian citizens of Alaska who remained after it was sold to the U.S.,----to the present day, when many Russian Americans are defacto dual citizens who travel frequently between the two countries. Just as Russia has adopted ideas from the U.S., the United States has benefited and been greatly influenced by Russians throughout its entire history, as indicated below. (See also "Russian American Library" on the home page.)
Many Russian Americans served in World War II either in the U.S. or Russian (Soviet) armed forces. Above is the annual Elbe River event at Arlington Cemetery where most of the attendees are Russian Americans.

All have made important contributions to Russian-American relations.
The Russian Cultural Centre is a reflection, if not a culmination, of the two centuries of societal cross-pollination. First, it was created by a Bilateral Agreement between the governments of the United States and Russia to officially endorse such cultural interaction as the key to peace. Second, the American Friends of the Russian Cultural Centre has among its members, many individuals of Russian descent who have made outstanding contributions to Russian American relations in the 20th and 21st centuries.
